The hope: 10 sessions of an open table game based on Knave - house rule hacked every session as we go. Every session starts at a camp or the base - 5 seats every session. Hopefully many common players but ultimately irrelvant as the "Ducal Wolves" (name not locked in) will be a crew roaming through 1200s Baltic inspired lands that were created during HexCrawl25.
Session one.
Bob "the chopper" - a nervous ex military mercenary, nervous and rough looking - battle axe.
Big Chungas - sharp faced round fella - throws knives, loses knives, steals knives. Tracked the others and then joined them.
Fefle. Bow toting beggar.
Pagans from a different time, have found each other during their knavery, each holds an amulet from their pagan roots and family lines - Earings - one that transports, another that sends messages through others mouths. A head band that fills the targets pockets with marbles or (roll on table)
We rolled characters, discussed magic - rune, amulet, alchemy, books. The main play makers of the land - vikings, pagans, missionaries, horselords, tribal warfare. And discussed playing the back story, or jumping to the main beginning. Using a salt mine adventure published by the mushmen, we began.
A festival, raided by the mine soldiers. Kidnapped and hauled through a forest. Finding a sharp nail, Bob released most of the party from their fetters, fought their way out until more soldiers turned up and forced them to the edge of the mine. 3 of the 8 get winched in before Big Chungas takes over the mine leaders mouth and they get released. With a 12 minute head start, they take a wagon and bush bash back into the forest. They struggle and fight and the rest of the crew get recaptured. Using a wagon as a barrier the three wolves get away until one take an arrow in the back and turn to face two horses and three soldiers.
They fight, they miss their swings, the yell, they fail and then suddenly they slaughter a horse, kill two soldiers and one runs away. spreading blood and marbles, they walk into the thick forest until....
In the midst of an open space is a large old tree. To see where they are Big Chungas climbs to the top and sees settlements, plains and forests. On return he spies large eggs in odd nests and a ring of runes around the trees middle.
Deciding to find something to eat, the squad fight a boar and drag its body back to the peaceful circle with the tree only to be met by an old robed woman. She loves plums, offers them non-magical wine and side dishes for the boar. After a while she leaves them.
Ill add notes after work.
