Faction: Toads.

Updated: May 27

Sixteen giant toads and 97 normal sized toads make up the cleaning staff of 'the menagerie'. A dungeon-like complex built by a druid to shield his research into basic necromancy.

The toads are led by a not so talkative toad named Trevor. Trevor works hard and doesn't really play ever. He expects everyone else to work hard as that is why he exists.

The toads have been trained, created, befriended into the cave systems and forest areas to keep everything clean. There is a lot of refuse and effluent from different activities in the dungeon and they consume and move all unneeded rubbish into useable piles or outside.

Slow moving and quiet, the toads are somewhat invisible. Always there but not always noticeable. As they collect and consume their own shit is deposited in a pool of acid at the corner of a large open communal toiled. The acid can melt, burn, harden, explode and poison in different ways. But without the proper research, it just sits there in a pool, waiting to be used.

Toads gather every 5 days to croak as one. For 15 loud minutes they make music, harmonies, rhythms, stories. It seems to the outsider like a recharge. Like life itself beats them down for 4 days and on the fifth they gather to encourage and nurture each other in song. If one toad misses the croaking, it is punished. It becomes sick. And it never forgets. No excuses.

Toads lay eggs which need to be incubated for months. Smaller toads are hatched early. Larger ones take a while. Giant toad eggs are desired by lizards as a delicacy. They must be protected.

Toads will always run from a fight unless they are backed into a corner. They have a strange ability to cool spaces. Which is quite a good skill when things get heated or during the summer. They are very good at ignoring what is happening around them if they are cleaning a space. They are gutless except for the day after the croaking.

To look at a toad you see a slimy, sometimes hairy, cold to the touch, big-eyed, giant mouthed beast who just wants to clean and croak and be left alone.
